SYNOPSIS
No Excuses
travels with the 2002 U.S.
Disabled Ski Team across Europe, Canada and the United
States through a three-month World Cup season that culminates at
the Salt Lake
City Paralympic Games - where paralyzed, amputee and visually impaired
racers reach speeds of up to 70 mph on the 2002 Olympics downhill
ski course.
During this historic season, the 22 athletes on the U.S. team compete
to win their fourth straight Nations Cup and to win acceptance of disabled
skiing as legitimate sport. No Excuses portrays six
featured athletes as they see themselves: fierce competitors accepting
neither pity nor excuses. Sensing a singular opportunity to change the
way their sport in particular and disabled people in general are often
viewed - as 'oddities' - Chris
Devlin Young, Lacey
Heward, Lee
Joiner, Jason
Lalla, Joe
Tompkins and Chris
Waddell share both intense and
intimate moments during this extraordinary season.
No Excuses captures the individual struggle of athletic endeavor
and an honest acknowledgement of grief without the sentiment and pity
common in typical media coverage of the disabled.
